Climbing and hiking holiday in Seefeld
Breathtaking panoramic views in one of the most beautiful hiking regions in the Alps
With over 650km of marked hiking paths and climbing routes, Seefeld is one of the best hiking areas in the Alps. Nestled between the Wetterstein and Karwendel mountains, the high plateau of Seefeld stretches across the border to Bavaria and offers both beginners and experienced mountaineers breathtaking tours with panoramic views far beyond its borders. Our hotel’s hiking guide awaits guests during all seasons with a great hiking programme, available at our hotel reception every day. Everything’s ready for your hiking holiday in Seefeld!
In the region there are some easy hikes that are fantastic during any season. Here are some tips for hiking:
Walk around Seefeld’s Lake Wildsee
This easy walk starts practically right in front of our door and stretches anti-clockwise around the picturesque Lake Wildsee in Seefeld. Passing the Seestüberl, you reach the Seefeld Kneipp facility and the “Squirrel Forest” with friendly squirrels that love to be fed (tip: always take a few nuts with you). The path continues along the southern shore past Seefeld-Reith Golf Course back to Seefeld. We recommend visiting the Strandperle lake cafe/restaurant, which has a magnificent sun terrace and swimming area in the summer months.
Total time: approx. 45 minutes
Walk to Wildmoosalm
The popular Wildmoosalm hut is found at 1,338 metres above sea level and can be reached from Seefeld on a pleasant hiking path. From the centre of Seefeld, turn right at Haus Hosp, then follow the well-signed route through the Kirchwald forest along the Hörmannweg trail to Wildmoosalm.
Walk to Triendlsäge
Another easy walk takes you through the pedestrian zone, passing the Seefeld campsite, and through the forest towards the Hotel Triendlsäge, a 150-year-old hotel created from a former sawmill. Since its renovation in 2000, the Triendlsäge has become one of the most well-known Tyrolean taverns – specialising in local cuisine with regional ingredients.
Total time: approx. 30 minutes
Rosshütte hiking area
In winter a well-known ski resort, in summer a popular hiking destination. A beautiful panoramic trail stretches from Seefeld to the Ross hut and Mt Seefelder Spitze (2,220m) with 360° views of the Karwendel mountains, the Stubai Alps, and to Bavaria from the northern side. The tour takes about 3 to 4 hours and can easily be shortened with the Rosshütten Express funicular and the cable car to the Seefelder Joch. For advanced mountaineers, there is a circular walk to Mt Reither Spitze (2,373m), down to the Nördlinger hut (2,230m), and over Mt Härmelekopf back to Seefeld. This day tour is only recommended for experienced hikers.
Leutasch and Gaistal
Following in the footsteps of Ludwig Ganghofer, one of Germany's most famous writers of his time (1855 – 1920), the route takes you via Leutasch to the picturesque Gaistal. A circular route takes you past the Tillfussalm, which is located directly below the Ganghofer hunting lodge, where most of his works were written. You continue past the Hämmermoosalm to Gaistalalm, then along a wonderful forest route via the Tillfussalm back to the car park in Leutasch.
Total time: approx. 3 hours
Karwendel valleys
Did you know that the source of the Isar River is located near Seefeld in Hinterautal? Travel by car or train from Seefeld to Scharnitz, then walk along the Isar river on the level road past the Wiesenhof guesthouse until you reach the source of the Isar river. The rustic Kastenalm hut, which is open in the summer time as well, is another half an hour away.
A trip to the Gleirschklamm gorge is a true adventure – the Nederweg trail leads into this beautiful valley, along a narrow platform with the roaring river below. Return via Scharnitzer Alm hut to the car park or to the railway station in Scharnitz.
More hiking and climbing tours are described in detail in various guides, which you can get directly in Seefeld.

Swimming lakes and lidos
Seefeld’s superb swimming lakes and lidos
Experience Seefeld and the outdoors with all your senses. Whether paddle-boarding, swimming, practising aqua yoga, or just splashing around, you are certainly guaranteed a lively atmosphere at Seefeld’s natural lakes. Lake Wildsee lies at the heart of the stunning Wildmoos nature reserve. In addition to the natural lake, you can also take a dip in the outdoor heated pool of the Strandperle lido. With its own paddling pool and large children’s play area and bouncy castle, children have plenty of room to splash around and play. Happy, sporty, sunny days are spent on the beach volleyball court, water trampoline, and in the fun kayaks. The Sonja forest swimming pool on Lake Wildsee with its playground and spacious sunbathing area by the lake also draws you to the delights of Alpine swimming.
Lake Möserer See nestles in a tranquil forest in the heart of the nature reserve and is one of Tyrol’s warmest swimming lakes with an average water temperature of 22°C. Hard to credit that this extraordinary lake is up to 11m deep and located at an impressive 1,295m above sea level. If you prefer to enjoy the water from dry land, wonderful hiking trails and easy footpaths surround this jewel of nature. Many lakeside benches invite weary walkers to rest, watch the waterfowl that nest here, and admire the abundant wild flowers.
Lake Lottensee and Lake Wildmoos are particularly beautiful destinations for walks that are suitable for all abilities. In spring, the two lakes appear in the midst of the green meadows and forests of the Wildmoos nature reserve, only to disappear again in autumn. This natural phenomenon is a popular summertime bathing destination.
